Inge Hooijen is a PhD candidate at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University, supervised by Prof. Dr. Frank Cörvers and co-promotor Dr. Christoph Meng. She holds a Master of Arts in Comparative European Social Studies from the Zuyd University and the London Metropolitan University in Maastricht and London. To complete her master thesis she did field work in Istanbul (Turkey), studying the (labour market) experiences of highly educated Dutch and German women of Turkish descent in Istanbul. Furthermore, she holds a Research Master in Sociology and Demography from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (Spain). For this master thesis she studied the changes in the risk of becoming NEET in Spanish regions before and after the break out of the Great Recession. Her main research interests are demographic changes, human capital in peripheral regions, labour market transitions and transitions to the labour market, (internal) migration and social stratification from a regional, national and international perspective.
